The Y Collaborative works with organizations, companies, families, and individuals to minimize the stress and disruption of unexpected life changes especially health care crises. Healthcare institutions, wealth management firms, businesses, and educational organizations have engaged us to talk with employees, clients and patients about how to prepare for the unexpected. We cover many topics, from the paperwork and medical issues to the emotional and spiritual struggle of coming to terms with end-of-life. Any group interested in providing assistance, education and resources through seminars and lectures, group conversations, couples workshops and one-on-one coaching is a good fit for the Y Collaborative.
While many men and women claim reluctance to discuss end-of-life issues, there is also a pull towards such conversation. After presenting, again and again, we are told how glad participants were to have attended. Typical comments include: “It wasn’t morbid…in fact, sometimes it was funny” or “This got me committed to taking some actions I have just been postponing even though I knew it was not a good idea.” Or “You make this so easy and interesting and I am not afraid to talk about it with my family now.”
We conduct Lunch and Learn. Topics can be presented as stand- alone seminars or conducted as a series. Small group sessions have proven especially useful. Several sessions with the same group of peers, friends or family members allows the conversations begun with us to continue over time which deepens the learning and stimulates action.
People who are exposed to Y Collaborative conversations are more thoughtful about end-of-life decision-making, more appreciative of the need to reflect before finding oneself in a crisis, more engaged in relevant issues with those important in their lives and certainly, better prepared.
